Read the Label

Turn it over.

Most people have no idea what they're actually eating. Not because they're not smart. Because the food industry is very, very good at marketing.

The front of a product is designed by a marketing team. The back is required by law. One of these is telling you the truth.

Turn it over.

Six things. That's all you need.

Read the back of any food or drink. These six steps give you the full picture.

Serving size first. Not calories.

One bag is often 2.5 servings. Every number on the label multiplies. Always check this first or nothing else means anything.

Sugar in disguise.

Sugar has 60+ names. Dextrose, maltose, cane juice, anything ending in "-ose." Three of these in one product? More sugar than it looks.

Ingredients list. The real label.

Listed by weight. Highest first. If sugar is first, that's mainly what you're eating. Can't pronounce it? Probably not for you.

"Natural" means nothing.

No legal definition in the US. A product can contain artificial preservatives and still call itself natural. It's a marketing word. Ignore it.

Count the ingredients.

You don't need to know each one. Just count. Bread needs 5. If it has 25, ask yourself why. Shorter = less processed

Our Story

Why Read the Label?

I kept finding myself telling people the same thing. Turn it over. Read the label! Stop looking at the front. The front is marketing. The back is the truth.

After enough conversations with friends and family I realised this needed to be written down. Simple, honest, and actually useful. Not "it's good for you." That's not enough anymore.

70/30, 80/20, whatever works for you. It's not about perfection. It's about knowing what you're choosing.
